This week, we have a very uniquely named recipe! Submitted by the Morris family, President John Morris fondly remembers his mother and grandmother making this delicious recipe. So throw it back with us and enjoy some family time while you bake this cobbler together.
Ingredients:
6 tablespoons butter
1 cup self-rising flour
1 3/4 cups sugar, divided
1/4 cup plus 1 1/2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa, divided
1/2 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups boiling water
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place the butter in an 8x8 in baking pan. Place in the oven to let the butter melt while the oven is preheating.
In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, 3/4 cup sugar, and 1 1/2 tablespoons of cocoa. Stir in the milk and vanilla until smooth. Spoon this batter over the melted butter in the baking pan.
Stir together the remaining 1 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa. Sprinkle over the batter. Slowly pour boiling water over the top of the mixture. Bake for 30 minutes until set.
Serve slightly warm, alone or with vanilla ice cream.
Makes 9 to 12 servings.
